1 2 3 Waste Soil Sampling, Analysis and Management <br /> • <br /> rOn January 28, 1999, to characterize the 500 cubic yard soil stockpile generated from the UST <br /> excavation, Ramage Environmental collected 20 soil stockpile samples for two-In-one lab <br /> composite and analysis <br /> Results of the soil stockpile sampling and analysis indicated that the sod pile contained only trace <br /> concentrations of MTBE and tertiary butanol (TBA) MTBE was detected in one of the ten <br /> composite sod samples at a concentration of 0 0052 mg/kg TBA was detected in four of the ten <br /> composite soil samples ata maximum concentration of 0 18 mg/kg Based on these results, the <br /> stockpiled soil was either used as backfill or spread in the northern portion of the site <br /> On April 1, 1999, to characterize the sod stockpile generated from the canopy support over- <br /> excavation, Ramage Environmental collected eight soil samples from this stockpile for two-in-one <br /> lab composite and analysis To characterize another soil stockpile of approximately 50 cubic <br /> yards on the south side of the site, Ramage Environmental also collected two soil samples from <br /> that stockpile for two-in-one lab composite and analysis This sod (south stockpile)was generated <br /> from earlier UST excavation activities Following sampling, the canopy support over-excavation <br /> soil stockpile was covered with plastic sheeting <br /> lie Results of the sod stockpile sampling and analysis indicated that the canopy support P p 9 Y PY over- <br /> excavation soil pile contained up to 220 mg/kg of TPH-as-gasoline and up to 1 0 mglkg of <br /> xylenes Benzene, toluene, ethylbenzene and oxygenates were not detected in any of the soil <br /> samples collected from this stockpile Total lead was detected in only one of the sod samples at a <br /> concentration of 8 8 mg/kg The composite soil sample collected from the small south stockpile <br /> did not contain detectable concentrations of TPH-as-gasoline, BTEX, oxygenates or total lead <br /> Based on these results, this south stockpile was also spread out in the northern portion of the site <br /> On June 7, 1999, the San Joaquin Valley Unified Air Pollution Control District approved the <br /> uncontrolled aeration of the waste soil generated by the canopy support over-excavation <br /> Following approval from the City of Manteca, this soil was also spread in the northern portion of <br /> the site <br /> On October 14, 1999, after approximately four months of aeration, the sod pile was re-sampled <br /> Under PHS/EHD direction, Ramage Environmental collected five discrete soil samples for <br /> laboratory analysis Results of the soil sampling indicated that all five samples did not contain <br /> detectable concentrations of gasoline constituent compounds <br /> 6 <br />
