, y
Effluent Polishing
Introduction
The ultimate disposal/reuse point for treated wastewater at the facility is a
evaporation and subsurface disposal in a drywell field. Plant effluent is held
in an evaporation polishing pond and then pumped to the drywells.
Flow Schematic Description
Secondary effluent flows by gravity into the pond. Effluent is allowed to set
R and algae stabilizes more of the nitrogen. i
Theory of Operation
The polishing pond provides a place for the algae to further stabilize
nutrients that are in the effluent water. Minor solids will settle out before the
water is pumped to the dry wells for disposal and eventual return to the
water cycle.
Pond Operation
The pond operates on its own. Occasional operator care is required to remove
weeds, break up floating algae or small sludge particles.
Pond Maintenance Procedure
Once a month the pond should be inspected and weeds should be removed.
Once each quarter the pond should be inspected for large debris and any
items should be removed.
If you have any questions, contact 7-H Technical Services Group at
530.271.1600 extension 109 for instructions on replacement.
Pond Maintenance Schedule
Weekly
• Check pond level.
• Clean off any floating algae blooms
Monthly
• Check for and remove weeds
• Check for large debris and remove
7H Technical Services Group Operation &Maintenance Manual
Effluent Polishing(Pond) Page 17 of 26
Rev991215
