However,this was due to
high levels in Pond 1 caused by long filter backwashes during a time of high solids loading.
This has been resolved by thorough cleaning of the filter media. These high levels also caused
the freeboard to be less than 2 feet on June 4.
During the month, 12,500 gallons of sludge was removed from the plant. All waste activated
sludge was aerobically digested and decanted to reduce volume and stored until tanks are full.
Exceptions/Violations
1. BOD concentration of 41.6 mg/L exceeded the 30-day average limitation of 40 mg/L on
June 7.
2. Settleable Solids of 14.7 ml/L exceeded the daily max limitation of 0.2 ml/L on June 4.
These violations were caused by excessive solids in Pond 92. Pond 91 and#2 were cleaned
on June 10 and I1 to remedy this issue.
3. Freeboard limitation of 2.0 feet was exceeded on June 4 due to long filter backwashes
filling Pond#l. This was remedied by removing and replacing sand media in the filters.
Calibration Log
Shadow Lake does not use any analytical instruments that require calibration for the reporting of
waste discharge requirements. All analysis is performed by a certified laboratory.
Effluent flow meter was calibrated on March 12, 2012 by Cooper Controls, Inc. of Acampo, CA.
