On 7/19105 the total
flow processed by filter bed#1 was 146,000 gallons, filter bed 43— 115,000gallons and
filter bed#2— 172,000 gallons. See attached sketch 91 for site plan. During the early
summer of 2005 filter bed 41 had reached a level such that Ieakage occurred from the
surface of the filter bed onto the sidewalk and ultimately a small volume of water reached
the adjacent street. See sketch 92.
Investi ation
During the operations since initial startup the cause of the higher water level in filter bed
#1 had been under investigation. All pump and system operations were checked to verify
that the system was operating as designed. During the operation the lift station was
pumped twice The sludge buildup was affecting the float operations and possibly
blocked the pump suction resulting in a difference of total volume. Since all system
pumps and controls were operating properly other sources of water inflow were
investigated. Pump 91 was turned off in July 2005 and the filter bed level was checked to
verify that the level was dropping. The filter bed level was checked two days later and it
had dropped five inches. Therefore, no in leakage from unknown sources such as leaking
water lines, siphon actions in the lift station etc. were the cause of the high water level in
filter bed #1.
` Identification of Cause of Problem
Since all mechanical and control system possible malfunctions had been investigated and
the system was determined to be operating as designed,p g fined, the only causes of the problem
r 33233 S.
