BRE STANDARD OPERATING PROCEDURES <br /> B.1 INTRODUCTION <br /> This Attachment describes the field methods and procedures proposed during the Phase II <br /> Assessment to be performed at the former E-Z Serve Facility No 100878, 1012 West <br /> Yosemite Avenue, Manteca, California (Site) The specific procedures outlined are based <br /> on BRE's Comprehensive Quality Assurance Plan <br /> B.2 SOIL BORING METHODS <br /> B 2 1 SHALLOW SOIL BORING METHODS <br /> Shallow soil bonngs will be initiated using hand-operated post hole diggers and completed <br /> using truck-mounted hydropunch technology The post hole diggers will be used to <br /> explore for underground obstructions to a depth of 4 to 5 feet, and to provide soil samples <br /> for organic vapor screening (see Section B 5) Hydropunch equipment will be <br /> decontaminated prior to drilling and between drilling each hole Decontamination will be <br /> accomplished using high-pressure steam-cleamng equipment <br /> B 2 2 SHALLOW MONITORING WELL BORING METHODS <br /> The shallow monitoring well boring will be initiated using hand-operated post hole diggers <br /> and completed using truck-mounted hollow stem augers (HSAs) The post hole diggers <br /> will be used to explore for underground obstructions to a depth of 4 to 5 feet, and to <br /> provide soil samples for organic vapor screening (see Section B 5) The hand dug boring <br /> will'be 'approximately nine inches in diameter (slightly greater than the diameter of the <br /> HSA bit) to minimize the risk of damaging unmarked underground utilities <br /> The HSAs will be used to drill the boring to total depth and install the monitoring well <br /> The HSAs keep the boring from collapsing around the well casing during well <br /> construction Each HSA is a hollow, 5-foot long, 4 25-inch (inner diameter) steel shaft <br /> which created an 8 25-inch diameter borehole Spiral steel flights, welded to the exterior <br /> side of the HSA shaft, transport cuttings to the surface when the augers are rotated A <br /> hollow, spadelbullet cutter head will be used as a bit <br /> Well drilling equipment will be decontaminated prior to drilling and between drilling each <br /> hole Decontamination will be accomplished using high-pressure steam-cleaning <br /> equipment <br /> B 2 3 DISPOSAL OF DRILL CUTTINGS AND DEVELOPMENT WATER <br /> Monitoring well cuttings will be placed in a 55-gallon drum and stockpiled on Site <br /> .
