' 1. 0 INTRODUCTION
' This report presents the res is of Tank Protect Engineering of
Northern California 's (TPE) subsurface investigation at 1012 West
Yosemite Avenue, Manteca, alifornia (see Figure 1) . The
property is currently owned by the E-Z Serve Petroleum Marketing
' Company (E-Z Serve) . The purpose of this investigation was to
characterize the subsurface soils and groundwater quality beneath
the property.
This site assessment was authorized by E-Z Serve' s May 1, 1992
confirmation letter. The investigation was conducted in
' accordance with the E-Z Serve March 20, 1992 Work Plan and TPE's
subsequent May 15, 1992 Health and Safety Plan. Prior to
implementing the work, both documents were submitted to and
approved by the San Joaquin County Health Services Department
' (SJCHSD) .
The scope of work completed as a part of this Preliminary Site
' Assessment Report PSAR includes: 1) a limited review of site
background information; 2) the construction of 3 groundwater
monitoring wells, 3) the collection and laboratory analysis of
selected soil and groundwater samples; 4) determination of
' groundwater flow direction and gradient beneath the site; and 5)
the preparation of this PSAR summarizing TPE 's findings .
2 . 0 SITE HISTORY
5 1
Background information provided by E-Z Serve documents that the
' site was formerly a gasoline service station containing three
10, 000 gallon underground fuel storage tanks. Each tank was of
single walled, steel construction and was installed in 1970. The
general configuration of the site is shown in Figure 2 . On July
13 , 1989 the tanks were precision tested. The regular leaded
gasoline tank failed the precision tank test. None of the
remaining tanks were precision tested. The facility was
subsequently closed in August 1989 and the tanks and associated
piping removed in January 1991. On January 21, 1991 a
preliminary sods and groundwater investigation was conducted by
Associated Soils Analysis (ASA) . ASA drilled and installed three
monitoring wells (MW-1 through MW-3) . Details of this
preliminary study were submitted to SJCHSD in a report dated
April 1, 1991.
3 . 0 SOIL AND GROUNDWATER INVESTIGATION
3 . 1 Objectives and Scope, of, Work
On May 1; 1992 TPE was contracted by E-Z ,Serve` to drill `and,
' install 31monitoring wells (designated MW-4 , MW-5, ,and MW-6) at
the site.
