Mimi
iyT4"
` GeoStrategies Inc.
Gettler-Ryan In(,'.
September 5, 1991
Page 2
Soil samples were collected at five-foot depth intervals, using a modified
California split-spoon sampler fitted with clean brass tube liners. Soil samples
were screened at each sample interval for organic vapor, using an Organic
Vapor Monitor (OVM) photoionization detector. OVM readings are presented on
the exploratory boring logs in Appendix A. Selected soil samples retained for
chemical analysis were covered on bath ends with teflon tape and sealed with
plastic end caps. The samples were labeled, entered on a Chain-of-Custody form
and stored with ice until relinquished to Western Environmental Science and
Technology (WEST), a State-certified lzboratory located in Davis, California.
Monitoring We COCanstructinn
Borings L-1, C-2, and C-3 were drilled to total depths of 30.0, 31.0, and 30.5
feet, respectively. The locations of the borings are presented on Plate 2. The
wells were constructed in the boreholes using 2-inch-diameter Schedule 40 PVC
blank well casing zrid 0.020-inch factory-slotted well screen. The monitoring
well construction derails are presented with the boring logs in Appendix A. The
monitoring wells were developed on July 25, 1991. Purge water evacuated
during developmetrt was collected in 55-gallon drums and stored on-site. Purge
water will be disposed at an appropriate facility as directed by Chevron U.S.A.
SITE LTTHOLOGY
Lithology beneath the site consists primarily of silt, clay and silty sand which
are interbedded with sand in lenses and thin strata. Groundwater was first
encountered during drilling approximately 19 feet below grade and was observed
to stabilize at the same depth. This appears to be indicative of unconfined
aquifer conditions. Depth to groundwater was mersured on July 29, 1991 using
an oil-water interface probe. Static groundwater elevation data indicate an
noaatHC git1enThis s consistent 1 with with row
ater flow toward the east-
rrtheastbeneath the site.
regional groundwater flow
direction.
_..._-X28602-4 _.. __....._ _..._. ---._- ------- ------
