Mr Mike Infurna
March 27, 2006
CAMBRIA
Sail Screening Soil samples were screened using a photo-ionization detector
(PID) Samples were selected for analyses based on PID
readings, evidence of discoloration, stratigraphic location, depth
to groundwater, and the collection depth of previous samples
containing hydrocarbons
Encountered Lithology Lithology encountered in each boring consists primarily of sand,
silty sand, and sandy silt to a total explored depth of 40 fbg
Laboratory Analyses Twenty soil and nine grab-groundwater samples were submitted
for the following laboratory analysis
• TPHg by modified EPA Method 8015,
a BTEX, fuel oxygenates MTBE, tert-butyl ether (TBA) di-
isopropyl ether (DIPE) tert-amyl methyl ether (TAME) and ethyl
tert-butyl ether (ETBE) by EPA Method 826013, 1,2
dichloroethane (1,2-DCA), ethylene dibromide (EDB) and
ethanol by EPA Method 8260B
Sail Disposal Soil uutt ngs were stored on-site Pending landfill approval, the
cuttings are scheduled to be removed by Integrated Waste
Management and transported to a Chevron approved facility
Groundwater Depth Groundwater was encountered from approximately 18 fbg, 22 fbg
and 17 fbg in soil borings B-5 through B-7,respectively
HYDROCARBONS IN SOIL
No TPHg, benzene, DIPE, ETBE, TAME, TBA, 1,2-DCA, EDB or ethanol was reported in any of
the twenty soil samples analyzed MTBE was reported only in one of twenty soil samples The soil
sample B-5-S-38 had a reported concentration of 0 003 mg/kg MTBE
The results of this investigation indicate that remaining hydrocarbons are limited to the area near
the UST pit It is likely the 1991 over-excavation activities effectively removed the majority of
hydrocarbon impacted soil Detailed cross-sections with estimated TPHg and benzene
concentrations in soil are presented as Figures 6 and 7, respectively Soil sample results are
presented on Table 2
4
