16 April 15, 1993 Working To Restore Nature
ARCO Facility No 6020, Manteca, California
Monitoring Well Development and Ground-Water Sampling
A technician from RESNA was at the site on December 13 1992, to inspect ground-water
samples from the wells and examine the samples for subjective evidence of hydrocarbons
The monitoring wells had no floating product and were subsequently developed Procedures
used during well development are described in Appendix B
On December 16, 1992, a technician from RESNA measured the depths to water to the
nearest 0 01-foot with a Solinst water-level indicator Our technician then collected ground-
water samples for subjective analysis No visible evidence of hydrocarbons were noted in
the ground water The technician then purged monitoring wells MW-1 through MW-4 and
collected ground-water samples for laboratory analyses following methods outlined in
Appendix B
All water purged during development and sampling was stored in Department of
Transportation 17E drums and left on the site After the analytical results of the ground-
water samples were received, at the request of ARCO, Balch Petroleum removed and
disposed of the containerized purge water Ground-water analytical results are presented
in Table 3
Laboratory Analyses
The soil samples collected from just above the first encountered ground water and selected
samples with photoionization detector readings were submitted to the laboratory for analysis
of total petroleum hydrocarbons as gasoline (TPHg) and benzene, toluene, ethylbenzene,
and total xylene isomers (BTEX) using modified Environmental Protection Agency (EPA)
30055-5
6
