HAZARDOUS WASTE POTENTIALLY GENERATED ON-SITE <br /> As part of its routine operations, the terminal may generate the following <br /> hazardous wastes: Spent carbon from wastewater treatment systems, oily <br /> water (from tank water draws, loading racks, stormwater, etc), tank <br /> bottoms/sludges, saturated oily rags or absorbent spill pads, etc. It should be <br /> noted, however, that additional wastes may be generated non-routinely as the <br /> result of maintenance, including, but not limited to activities such as tank <br /> cleaning, tank sandblasting, painting, and contaminated soil excavation in the <br /> event of a release or spill of oil or capital construction. The following list of <br /> hazardous wastes and their characteristics are based upon those wastes <br /> which have historically been generated at this terminal or similar bulk <br /> petroleum terminals: <br /> Wastestream Name Potential Hazardous Characteristic <br /> Spent carbon from wastewater Sometimes toxic for Benzene <br /> treatments stems <br /> Tank bottoms, sludge, scale Sometimes toxic for Benzene <br /> Contaminated soil Sometimes toxic for Benzene or Lead <br /> Waste paint/thinners Ignitable or Toxic for Lead <br /> Spent sandblast media Sometimes Toxic for Lead <br /> Spent Solvents Hazardous if contain a listed <br /> chlorinated F waste. <br /> Used Oil Listed in California; must be recycled <br /> Batteries Exempt if recycle <br /> Oily Water Exempt if rerefined at company- <br /> owned refinery (or if only oily portion <br /> is rerefined). Otherwise, sometimes <br /> toxic for benzene or sometimes <br /> ignitable. <br /> Oily rags, absorbent pads, plastic, Non-hazardous per Petroleum Debris <br /> PPE Exclusion. If saturated, however, <br /> sometimes ignitable. <br />
