Box 1109 <br /> Ripon, CA 95336 <br /> SUBJECT: Manure Management Plan for SKS Enterprises,23709 E Brandt Road,Lodi,CA <br /> 95240 <br /> The San Joaquin County Environmental Health Department(EHD)received the second revised Manure <br /> Management Plan(MMP)for the SKS Enterprises Poultry Ranch at 23709 E Brandt Road,Lodi on <br /> January 31, 2006. <br /> The EHD rejects the Manure Management Plan based on the following findings: <br /> 1. SKS has indicated that some chicken houses will be phased out and closed within the next year. <br /> Please outline in a separate document,on SKS letterhead, when each specific unit will be <br /> phased out. State how many chickens will be at the facility before and after each unit closure. <br /> State the amount of manure which will be generated daily before and after each unit closure. <br /> State the amount of manure in cubic yards or gallons. Include the same information for the <br /> opening of all new units. <br /> 2. The MMP does not clearly state the number of chickens per unit or the amount of manure <br /> generated daily by each unit. There are four types of chicken units at the Brandt Rd facility: <br /> five woody houses, one brood house,two environmental houses,and one high-rise house. Two <br /> more environmental houses are planned. List the number of chickens per unit and the amount <br /> of manure generated daily by each unit. State the amount of manure in cubic yards or gallons. <br /> 3. The MMP does not clearly state the capacity of the composting house in cubic yards of chicken <br /> manure. State how much incoming chicken manure can be added to the composting process <br /> each day. <br /> 4. The MMP does not state how the chicken manure will be handled if the composting house <br /> capacity is less than the amount of manure generated every day. State how the excess manure <br /> will be handled. All companies or individuals who haul manure from the Brandt Road facility <br /> must be approved by the EHD. <br /> 5. Clarify the manure cleaning procedure for Unit 6. Is the entire floor scraped clean every week? <br /> 6. The MMP states that Modesto Tallow handles the egg disposal for the site. Modesto Tallow is <br /> no longer in business. Who currently handles egg disposal for the site? <br /> 7. Clarify the location of the manure lagoon. The facility map indicates that the pond southwest of <br /> unit 9 is the manure lagoon. A site visit on February 16, 2006 by the EHD found another <br /> manure lagoon(or pit) directly south of unit 9. Provide a new facility map which states the <br /> location of the manure lagoon. <br /> 8. Write the MMP on company letterhead and have the author sign the document. <br /> Page 1 of 2 <br />
