Our facility operates year-round with a 700,000 bird capacity at our Brandt Rd. location. The wind usually blows from the Northwest (as reported by SJC Air Pollution District). The proposed number of birds will be 1 million hens. Our maximum is 1.5 million. In the environmental houses (units 7-10), the manure comes out on the manure belts and is dumped directly onto a spread machine daily. The tractor will pull the spread machine to the composting house for processing. I am estimating about 64 cubic yards of manure will be hauled daily for composting. We also have a lagoon for the liquid manure generated by our woody barn birds. SKS will contact EHD before agreeing to spread manure to any off site premises. SKS is aware that any manure spread on open land must be disked in within 24 hrs. We are also of the `farmland' definition and rates. The moisture in chicken manure is estimated to be between 60 to 65 % from the hen and 75 to 80 % in liquid manure. The estimate of manure that will be generated daily is between 16.5 to 17 tons a day. * (Explained in more detail at the end of MMP) We have an enclosed facility with a concrete foundation that we are proposing to use for composting. The house will operate with one machine and two composting pits. Each measuring 6x20x250. On one end we dump 22 cubic yards of manure and 8 yards of wood shavings (30 cubics total). The complete process will take about 28 to 30 days. We are estimating between 18 and 20 cubic yards a day of compost and about 88 cubic yards in the future and prior to that we will plan for more composting pits. After processing, we will remove the compost and use a bobcat to pile on the concrete. The compost will be stored within the composting facility until it is ready for hauling to a farm site. The dimensions for the composting house are as follows— 100 x 600 a total 60,000 sq. ft. All operations will be done within the unit.
