The manure is then
brought out and dumped into a manure pit. Next, the manure is pumped and spread on a
drying pad. While on the drying pad; we use a spring tooth to move the manure back and
forth to expedite the drying process and to reduce the risk of fly breeding.
House # 6 - This is a high rise facility where the manure is cleaned every six months.
This manure goes to the drying pad.
House # 7 & 8 — This facility has a manure belt system. The manure is brought to the
spread truck directly.
During the winter season, we use the ponds because it's too wet to use the drying pad.
OBJECTIVE:
1. Minimize fly production to avoid public complaints and improve public
relations.
2. Reduce dust and odors too.
3. Avoid pollution of surface and underground water.
SKS is planning to continue to dry the chicken manure on a dry pad to keep the moisture
down. As a result it will not produce flies. SKS has installed a composting machine that
is not in service yet.
