January-2006 JAN
ENVIRONMEW HEALTH
SKS MANURE MANAGEMENT PLAN PER MIT/__ERVICES
SKS is an agricultural poultry farm that operates in San Joaquin County.
Our facility operates year-round with a 700,000 bird capacity at our Brandt
Rd. location. The wind usually blows from Southeast to Northwest.
The proposed number of birds is I million hens. Our maximum is 1.5 million.
The manure comes out on the manure belts and is dumped directly onto a spread
machine. The tractor will pull the spread machine to the composting house for
processing.
We also have a lagoon for the liquid manure generated by our woody barn birds.
SKS will contact EHD before agreeing to spread manure to any off site
premises. SKS is aware that any manure spread on open land must be disked in
within 24 hrs. The moisture in chicken manure is estimated to be between 60 to
65 % from the hen and 75 to 80 % in liquid manure. The estimate of manure
that will be generated daily is between 16.5 to 17 tons a day.
Our composting house is operating with one machine and two composting pits.
Each measuring 6x20x250. On one end we dump 22 cubic yards of manure
and 8 yards of wood shavings (30 cubics total). We begin processing for about
28 to 30 days. We are estimating between 18 and 20 cubic yards a day of
compost and about 88 cubic yards in the future and prior to that we will plan
for more composting pits. We will remove the compost each day and use a
bobcat to pile on the concrete or fill up the trucks to haul to a farming site.
The dimensions for the composting house are as follows— 100 x 600
total 60,000 sq. ft. The dimensions for the lagoon are as follows;
438 x 288 x 30.
We pump 6 loads a day and during the rainy season we pump approximately
20,000 gallons of manure. We do not pump the lagoon often. We usually keep
the lagoon intact to let the bacteria work in the manure pond.
Unit#6 is cleaned with a small kubota tractor. It is pushed to the end and an
electric auger it is brought into a trailer and then it will be brought into the
lagoon or composting house.
SKS hauls the garbage generated on the ranch in a 8x I 6x6 trailer to the nearest
landfill. North County Landfill at Harney Lane, Lodi. We haul approximately
