From the time samples are collected until the issuing of the analytical laboratory results, <br /> the samples will be in the custody of the laboratory or Dames & Moore personnel, or a bonded <br /> courier. In order to maintain chain of custody, the samples must be: <br /> • In sight of the assigned custodian; <br /> • Locked in a tamper-proof location; or <br /> • Sealed with a tamper-proof seal. <br /> A written record of sample possession and transference will be maintained, as <br /> documented on the chain of custody record. The chain of custody record will be signed with <br /> the date and time for the following activities: <br /> • Whenever the sample container (ice chest) is opened for any reason during <br /> shipping, the record must be signed and seal number noted; <br /> • The record must be signed each time the sample container is transferred to the <br /> responsibility of another person; and <br /> • The custody record must be signed and enclosed within the sample container <br /> when it is sealed for transport to the laboratory. <br /> SAC187.14 8 <br />
