3.0 SUBSURFACE SOIL AND GROUNDWATER CONDITIONS
3.1 SOIL LITHOLOGY
Soils encountered during this assessment consisted of silty sand and gravelly, silty sand. The soil
materials were olive in color(5Y 4/2), moist to saturated. Odors were not detected.
3.2 GROUNDWATER FLOW DIRECTION
Groundwater was encountered at a depth of approximately 12 feet bgs and remained at this depth
during sampling activities. The determination of groundwater flow direction was not part of this
assessment. However, according to PHS-EHD personnel, groundwater is expected to flow to the
north-northeast with a relatively flat gradient.
3.3 RESULTS OF LABORATORY ANALYSIS
McCampbell Analytical reported that the soil samples submitted for HVOC analysis did not contain
chemicals of concern above the method detection limits of 5.0 micrograms per kilogram (/.cg/kg)
which is approximately parts per billion. However, tetrachloroethylene(PCE)was detected in"grab"
groundwater samples collected from SB-1 and SB-2 at concentrations of 2.9 and 1.2 micrograms per
liter (µg/L), respectively. Other HVOCs were not detected above the method detection limits (0.5
yg/L) in"grab" groundwater samples collected from SB-1 and SB-2.
Q1Ceres Assoc:z7es 5 Project CA518-2
11"F13-C\t0.Quality Cleaners,Tracy,CA June 8, 1999
