ARCADIS Ms. Amaru
June 1, 2010
• TPH as gasoline by USEPA Method 8015B (M)
• TPH as diesel by USEPA Method 8015B (M)
• TPH as motor oil by USEPA Method 8015B (M)
• Moisture content by ASTM Method D-2216(so that results can be presented on a
dry weight basis)
With the exception of one sample, the results for all contingency samples were not
detected above laboratory reporting limits or were detected at concentrations below
screening levels (Table 1). One sample collected from boring C51-SB13 (from 5.5 to
6 feet bgs) contained a TPH as motor oil concentration of 190 mg/kg.
Proposed Additional Soil Removal
As described in the Site Sampling and Soil Removal Work Plan, ARCADIS proposes
to expand the existing excavation and remove additional impacted soils based on the
soil sampling results. The intent of the expanded excavation will be to focus on
removing impacted soil in the directions of the borings containing concentrations
above ESI-s.
Figure 3 presents the proposed excavation areas. Prior to digging, the underground
utilities in these areas will be positively identified using hand tools (e.g., shovels) or
an air knife. Soil will then be removed if possible using a small backhoe or bobcat;
however, the presence of structures, pipelines and/or conduits may limit the ability to
remove additional soil.
Soil around borings C51-SB2 and C51-SB13 will be excavated vertically to
approximately 7 feet bgs (or approximately one foot below the impacted soil). Soil in
this area will be excavated horizontally within the limits of the surrounding
underground utilities. If the soil cannot be removed safely from this area, the
excavation activities will be discontinued.
Soil around boring C51-SB4 will be excavated vertically to approximately 10 feet bgs
(or approximately two feet below the impacted soil). Soil in this area will be
excavated horizontally within the limits of the surrounding borings and underground
utilities.
Page:
4/8
