Staff observed
PG&E's contractor abandon several wells in accordance with San Joaquin County
Environmental Health guidelines. The well casings were removed two feet below grade,
backfilled with neat cement, pressurized for five minutes, and then topped off with neat
cement creating a cap. The upper portion of the borehole was then backfilled with concrete
and native soil to grade. Several wells could not be abandoned at this time due to a conflict
with burrowing owls that will require relocation after the breeding season. The Discharger is
waiting to complete the well abandonment activities sometime in September 2009. A well
abandonment report will follow.
The site inspection report and photos are attached for your review.
