l RECYCLING
111WMEMALE LIGHT BULBS & BALLASTS
NEVER DISCARD SPENT BULBS IN GARBAGE
It is Costco policy that all types of light bulbs and ballasts be recycled.
This poster describes the procedure for items used in Costco's operations.
Each facility must have a bulb recycling box and a ballast recycling bucket on hand at all times.
ORDERING A RECYCLING BOX OR BUCKET
Bulbs are stored in boxes, and ballasts in buckets.
Call HTR Recycling @ 1-888-537-4874.
Container pricing is found on the Energy Department intranet site.
The vendor will bill you for the container(s) via mail for each
item ordered according to the prices listed on the order form.
CHOOSE A STORAGE AREA/PROPERLY LABEL BOX
Each storage area must have sign reading "Universal Waste Lamps for Recycling".
When the first item is placed in the recycling container, indicate the date where it asks for
"Start Accumulation Date".
Once full, follow the instructions printed on the container regarding securing the contents and send
it to the address printed on the container. Containers can only be kept on site for one year from
the "Start Accumulation Date". Before the one year anniversary from the "start accumulation
date", the container must be sealed and sent to the recycler and a new container started.
LAMP RECYCLING
UNIVERSAL WASTE- START
LAMPS ACCUMULATION
DATE: XX -XX -Ou
O D
BALLAST RECYCLING
BROKEN LIGHT BULBS
Bulbs cannot be intentionally broken/crushed.
Accidentally broken bulbs should be put in a secured plastic bag (such as a Zip -Loc)
and labeled "accidentally broken light bulb" and placed in the recycle box.
GROUP RE -LAMPS
When all the main ceiling lights are changed out at one time, this is called a "group re -lamp".
This is coordinated by the Corporate Energy Department and usually occurs every 2 years.
The installation vendor will remove the old bulbs, palletize them, re -box and leave them at
the warehouse. It is the warehouse's responsibility to shrink-wrap the pallet, label the pallet
"UNIVERSAL WASTE LAMPS FOR RECYCLING" and have bulbs recycled immediately.
THERE IS NO CHARGE TO RECYCLE THE LAMPS FROM A GROUP RE -LAMP
Call Venture Lighting at 800-451-2606 to pick up old bulbs.
Old ballasts that are changed out during a group re -lamp should be
placed in recycling buckets and handled as described above.
RETENTION OF BULB RECYCLING RECORDS
Each warehouse is responsible for making sure they receive the recycling receipts.
Retain all pertinent documentation onsite for 3 years.
For more information about this program, visit the Energy Department website or call 415-313-6025.
®
Place ballasts in bucket and
screw lid closed.
