ACTION GUIDE#9—BOMB THREAT,VANDALISM, AND SABOTAGE <br /> GENERAL INFORMATION: <br /> Bomb threats are usually received through the telephone. The most likely employees to <br /> receive such a call will be secretaries or receptionists, although any employee answering an <br /> outside line could be involved. <br /> Both state and federal laws are violated if a bomb threat is made. <br /> It is very important to make a written report of all details. Even though the LAWTF operations <br /> are not in an urban area there is a possibility of threats affecting operations. <br /> SUGGESTED RESPONSE <br /> • Be calm and congenial with the caller, but at the same time ask certain leading questions <br /> in order to get as much information as possible. <br /> • Note the time. <br /> • Turn on tape recorder, if available. <br /> • Pass a note to someone to call police. <br /> • Take written notes on exactly what is said by the caller. <br /> • Use the forms on the next page. <br /> DEALING WITH A BOMB THREAT-ASK QUESTIONS OF THE CALLER <br /> QUESTION ANSWER <br /> When will it go off? <br /> Where is it located? <br /> Is the bomb hidden or is it out in <br /> the open? <br /> What does it look like? <br /> Why are you doing this? <br /> Will someone be hurt when the <br /> bomb goes off? <br /> What kind of bomb is it? <br /> What is your name? <br /> Where are you calling? <br /> Will you be able to see the bomb <br /> go off? <br />
