State of California Department of Health Services <br /> Memorandum <br /> To Section Chiefs Date August 4 , 1989 <br /> Unit Chiefs <br /> Staff Toxicologists Subject: Guidance In Use <br /> of Non-Detect <br /> Values in Exposure <br /> Assessments <br /> From Toxic Substances Control Program <br /> 400 P Street, Room 4340 <br /> 324-2425 <br /> Attached please find the Toxicology and Risk Assessment Unit <br /> Scientific Guidance Memo 89-2 "Use of Non-Detect and Limit of <br /> Detection Values in Exposure Assessments. " The intent of this <br /> scientific guidance memo is to provide a uniform approach to the <br /> treatment of non-detect values in exposure assessment portions of <br /> risk assessments to promote statewide consistency and to more <br /> accurately quantify the exposure of biological receptors to <br /> chemicals emanating from hazardous waste sites. <br /> This memo should be viewed as scientific guidance and should not <br /> be interpreted as policy of the Toxic Substances Control Program. <br /> We suggest that the scientific guidance detailed in the attached <br /> memo be made available to interested DHS-TSCP staff. We <br /> encourage DHS-TSCP staff to provide this scientific guidance memo <br /> to responsible or interested parties whose activities are <br /> relevant to the content of this memo. <br /> Should you have any questions or comments concerning the content <br /> of the attached scientific guidance memo, please do not hesitate <br /> to contact me. <br /> Jeffrey J.
