Paragraph Response
As a compromise approach to this issue,
we proposed to use work being conducted
at our Portland plant as a first step to
further evaluate this issue. Our Port-
land plant is very similar to our Stock-
ton plant. Both plants have been in
operation for approximately the same
time, use the same wood preserving
chemical processes, and are implementing
remedial measures to mitigate similar
pollution problems. The air-borne con-
taminant exposure data being developed
at Portland should provide a good basis
to evaluate air monitoring needs at our
Stockton plant. We invite your staff to
visit our Portland plant to review our
operations and the air monitoring program
ongoing. Under separate cover we will
provide your staff the air monitoring
workplan for Portland. The air monitor-
ing results are expected to be available
in November. We feel this approach pro-
vides timely and efficient progress on
this issue. The most pressing issue we
would like to focus our present efforts
on is groundwater.
3 Please see cover letter for response.
4 Future documents will be signed by a
licensed professional engineer or geo-
logist.
