Handling Hazardous Materials and Safe Storage
1 . (USED MOTOR OIL) Handling this hazardous material is done with
placing an oil drain pan or (mobile lift drain pan) underneath the
vehicle. After the used oil is captured it is then transferred into the
shops (Portable oil lift drain pan, 20 gallon capacity) if applicable. This
procedure is done this way because the Portable oil lift drain has an
air pump feature that makes it easy to pump the used oil into the
shop's oil storage container.
2. (Antifreeze Coolant) this hazardous material is also handled like the
used motor oil except the coolant is captured with a drain pan, and
then transferred to a 50 gallon drum provided by Kerns Oil Filter
Recycling Company.
3. (Used Oil Filters) The only time the used oil filters are ever handled is
at the same time as used motor oil. (SAME PROCEDURE) except the
filter is drained along the transfer of the oil for any remains, then the
filter is crushed and placed in a Metal Filter ONLY Drum provided by
Kerns Oil Filter Recycling Company.
Maintenance and Monitoring Records
- Maintenance for the hazardous materials listed above are serviced by
Kerns Oil Filter Recycling Company, each storage container and drum
are emptied out twice a year or when storage starts filling up.
- Monitoring Records
1 . Employee training is documented and recorded.
2. Waste produced is recorded.
3. Accidents or emergencies are recorded
4. Hazardous material inventory is recorded (2)
