Calculation of Secondary Containment Capacity
TEC EQUIPMENT INC.
2050 East Louise Avenue, Lathrop, California
AST Containment Capacity:
All ASTs on the facility are double-walled and as such do not require additional containment.Tanks are surrounded by
bollards to prevent accidental collision by vehicles or equipment.
The effective containment capacity is affected by contents within the concrete containment such as: ASTs, ancillary
equipment or other non-necessary items stored within. The berm capacity is also affected by the total largest potential
spill and precipitation that might be held within the containment area. The overall containment capacity calculation
follows and takes the latter items into account.
General containment shape is a rectangle with length (L) of 26 feet and width (W) of 16 feet. The total area (Atot) is
calculated as:
Atot= LXW=26ftX16ft=416ft2
The total volume of effective containment capacity is based on the minimum height of the concrete containment and is
calculated as:
Vol SC=Anet(416 ft2)X 0.33 ft(minimum height)= 137.3 ft3
Vol SC gallons= 138.7 ft3 X 7.48 gallons per ft3= 1,026.85 gallons
The secondary containment berm is built to 4 inches and has a retention volume of 1,027 gallons. The tank within is
double-walled, UL Listed and does not require secondary containment. The concrete secondary containment is more
than sufficient to capture minor leaks associated with piping or dispensers within it.
