DISCUSSION
The landfill gas monitoring results from the Corral Hollow Sanitary Landfill indicates that
combustible gas in excess of the regulatory limit is present at three of the monitoring well
locations. In accordance with our previous discussions with the Environmental Health Division,
a Landfill Gas Collection and Control System (GCCS)has been constructed, and is currently
operating. Results from this, the fourth quarter monitoring event, show significant decreases in
combustible gas at these probes, compared to previous monitoring event data. This is an
indication that LFG is no longer migrating from the site, but remains detected because it is
captured in the soil and slowly dissipating.
The County will continue its quarterly monitoring of the probes for landfill gas to determine the
effectiveness of the GCCS in controlling landfill gas migration at the property boundaries, and
will continue to adjust the GCCS to maximize collection efficiency. In addition, we are in
contact with the manufacturer of the LFG flare to investigate means to increase the collection
capacity of the system.
Effects of gas migration are minimal at this time due to the desolate location of the Corral
Hollow Sanitary Landfill.
DJ:mr
NAPersonal Folders\Dan\CH\Gas\4th200lgasb.wpd
LA 21847F
3
