Company Name : Berry Global , Lathrop , Ca <br /> Oil or Fuel Spill Containment/Cleanup Procedures <br /> It is company policy that any spill of oil or fuel be contained at a safe distance to prevent further <br /> release to soil or to waters of the state and to facilitate cleanup by employees or a contractor . <br /> Employees shall be properly trained and provided sufficient equipment and materials to promptly <br /> and effectively implement this policy . <br /> 1 . Immediate actions upon discovery of an oil/fuel spill . <br /> 1 . 1 Any employee who discovers an oil spill and after identifying the material and its <br /> source shall immediately notify the Operations Manager or his designee . <br /> 1 . 2 The employee shall then start containment procedures using available equipment <br /> and materials to prevent material from moving out of the immediate spill are <br /> using the following actions or any other means necessary without compromising <br /> safety . Gloves and work clothing should be worn to prevent skin contact with oils <br /> and promptly removed if soiled . <br /> 1 . 3 Identification of the spilled material must be made as soon as possible so that the <br /> appropriate containment, cleanup procedure and safety measures can be <br /> determined . Note : Unless a very large amount of mineral oil from electrical <br /> equipment or diesel fuel is involved, there is no immediate fire hazard (e . g . , <br /> transformer fire) , these materials can be safety approached, contained and cleaned <br /> up . Gasoline releases , unless very small ones that can be immediately wiped up <br /> or absorbed, must be controlled at a safe distance due to potential fire/explosion <br /> hazard. All sources of ignition need to be eliminated in any area where there ahs <br /> been a gasoline spill (e . g . , vehicles) . <br /> 1 . 4 Once contained, stop the source of the spill if this can be done safely . <br /> 1 . 5 Assure that temporary containment dikes of absorbent materials , dirt, sand bags, <br /> or bricks are effectively containing the spill . <br /> 1 . 6 Once the release is stopped and the spill contained, except for gasoline spills , the <br /> emergency is over and cleanup may commence . <br /> LATHSOP-0051 ; Rev 4- Lathrop CA Chemical Plan <br />
