M&KQ
QW R....Md. Afee—Awl by Keyalos/
Appendix A
Employee in need incase of emergency
Evacuation of the Disabled:
All LKOIKeystone personnel are responsible for the evacuation of persons with
disabilities in their respective areas. Personnel must obtain the assistance
necessary to evacuate these persons. Personnel must ensure that persons with
disabilities are attended to until the "ail clear" is given or until relieved by
emergency personnel.
VISUALLY IMPAIRED PERSONS
Tell the person the nature of the emergency and offer to guide himlher to the
nearest emergency exit. Have the person take your elbow and escort himlher (this
is the preferred method when acting as a 'sighted guide").
HEARING IMPAIRED PERSONS
Two methods of warning are:
1. Write a note telling what the emergency is and the nearest evacuation
route, For example `Filre-exit out rear door to the right and down. Now!"
2. Turning the light switch on and off to gain attention, then indicating
through gestures what is happening and what to do.
MOBILITY IMPAIRED PERSONS
Mobility impaired persons should be escorted to the nearest exit or stairwell and at least
two persons should remain to assist if further evacuation becomes necessary. Do not
attempt to carry mobility-impaired persons unless there is imminent danger. Lifting a
person with minimal ability to move may be dangerous to their well-being.
Wheelchairs have many moveable parts, some are not designed to withstand the stress
of lifting. You may have to remove the batteries. Life support equipment may be
attached. Always consult with the mobility-impaired person regarding:
1 . The number of people necessary for assistance.
2. Ways of being removed from a wheelchair.
3. Whether the seat cushion pad should be brought along with the person if
the person is removed from the wheelchair.
4. Whether to extend or bend extremities when lifting because of pain.
catheter, leg bands, spasticity, braces, etc.
5. Being carried forward or backward on a flight of stairs-
16, The type of assistance necessary after evacuation.
79
