As discussed during your visit to the facility on February 26th, the property that Simplot was operating prior to January 15th consisted of two sections of land. The southwest parcel, no. 181-17-004, was leased from Mr. Giannecchini. This lease was terminated on January 151. The northeast section of land continues to be leased from Mr. Grant Thompson, and is an active yard for storage of equipment. The facility has hired MP Environmental (MPe) to conduct cleanup work at the facility. MPe is located at 3400 Manor Street in Bakersfield, California. Their phone number is (800) 458-3036. On March 3, MPe removed the white staining on bare soil by shoveling and scraping the material, collecting the removed material, and transferring it to one of two 20-yard covered roll off bins. Also, MPe dug up oil-stained soils and placed them in 55-gallon covered drums. On March 8, MPe pumped the storm water from inside the former diesel tank containment into a 3,000-gal. poly tank, and pressure-cleaned all concrete surfaces with hot water. Next, MPe pumped out the storm water from the fertilizer tank farm containment into one of three poly tanks (two 6,500-gallon and one 3,000-gallon). Wet solids in the sumps were shoveled out and stored in 55-gallon covered drums. The concrete containment structure and load pad were pressure-cleaned with hot water. MPe removed residual muriate of potash dust from inside the removed baghouse and stored the material in a 55-gallon drum. Samples have been collected by MPe and submitted for analysis. Attached are the chain of custody records for the sampling. All containers are being stored on the Simplot-leased parcel, and are labeled pending lab results.
