i <br /> ELEVATING PLATFORMS <br /> SAFE PRACTICES FOR THE OPERATION OF <br /> POWER ELEVATED MOBILE WORK PLATFORMS <br /> GENERAL RULES <br /> I. Survey the iobsite: A survey should be made of the jobsite for hazards such as untamped earth fills, <br /> ditches,debris,high tension wires,unguarded openings and hazardous conditions created by other trades. <br /> The machine should only be operated when on a firm and level base. <br /> 2. Inspect all equipment before using: Never use any equipment which has an obvious defect. Defective <br /> equipment must be repaired before using. <br /> 3. NEVER USE EQUIPMENT FOR PURPOSES OR IN WAYS FOR WHICH IT WAS NOT <br /> INTENDED. <br /> OPERATING RULES <br /> 1. Read the manufacturer's operating instructions. Never exceed the manufacturer's recommended load. <br /> All accessories should be installed and used in accordance with the manufacturer's recommended <br /> procedures. <br /> f <br /> 2. Perform the manufacturer's daily maintenance checks and make a visual inspection of the vehicle and <br /> surrounding area to be sure both are clear of other personnel and obstructions including overhead wires. <br /> Make sure that the platform or basket is securely attached to forks,booms,etc. <br /> 3. Guardrails: Do not use(lie equipment without guardrails. Do not stand on guardrails to gain extra reach. <br /> Do not use guardrails to carry materials unless they are designed for this purpose, and do not allow <br /> excessive overhang of materials when elevating the platform. <br /> 4. A safety harness with lanyard must be securely attached to an anchorage point on the boom, frame, <br /> basket or platform, NOT TO GUARDRAILS. <br /> S. Do not lean out over the platform guardrail to perform work. <br /> 6. Do not use ladders or makeshift devices on the platforms to obtain greater heights. <br /> 7. All personnel should remain clear of pinch point and shear points while the equipment is in use. Do not <br /> climb up or down extendable or scissor anus. <br /> 8. Do not use the work platform as a"dead man"in performing work. <br /> 9. Do not operate equipment near electrical power lines. <br /> 10. Care should be taken to prevent ropes, electric cords, hoses, etc. from becoming entangled in the <br /> equipment when the platform is being elevated or when the equipment is being moved. <br /> 11. Do not alter equipment or override safety devices in any way. <br /> 12. If the equipment is to be stored or parked for an extended period of time,the wheels should be chocked. <br /> 13. Wheel chocks should be installed before using an aerial lift on an incline. <br /> i <br /> i <br />
