There are many septic systems in the general locale surrounding the subject
property. A surprisingly high number of nine repairs/additions permits to septic systems were
found in the EHD files within the one-half mile study area. Copies pf these permits are found in
Appendix D. This number of permits may be attributable to the clay surface soils and the lack of
installing deep, seepage pit OWTS structures.
I
i
I
PERCOLATION TEST RESULTS
SSS§ 6.2. To assess the permeability of the effluent receiving soils, three perc test depths of 36"
(3 ft), 100" (8.3 ft) and 300" (25 ft) were drilled in the location of the proposed filter bed as
depicted on the site plans.
SSS§ 6.3. After drilling, the sidewalls of the shallow boring was scored with a pry-bar to open
potentially smeared soil surfaces. Two inches of pea gravel was placed at the bottom and a three-
inch dia. perforated PVC pipe was inserted in each test boring. After these procedures, the
borings were pre-saturated with 12 inches of water approximately 24 hrs prior to the start of
testing.
SSS§ 6.4,6.5. On June 2, 2020, percolation testing commenced at 0700 hrs. No standing water
was observed after the 24-hr soak period in the shallow and the deep test borings. Five inches of
standing water was measured in the 8.3 ft test boring. EHD Perc Test Procedure#2 was
conducted. Testing was done over a four-hour period to induce maximum soil saturation. The
test results indicate an acceptable perc rate of 31.3 min/in for the shallow boring and a failing perc
rate of 41.7 for the 25 ft test boring. The 8.3 ft test boring also had a failing perc rate of 125 min/in.
A summary of the perc test results with corresponding application rates in gallons of effluent
accepted per square foot of soil per day are illustrated below in Table 2:
Page -3-
Chesney Consulting
