URS
Ms.Robert McClellon
September 13,2004
Page 3
approval. If any probe has to be relocated more than 10 feet from the approved location, URS will
contact SJCEHD to obtain approval of that relocation.
If the probes are constructed as expected, pea gravel will be placed between the annulus of the deep
probe casing and the boring wall to 14 feet bgs (1 foot above the top of the screened interval of the deep
probe). Two-feet of bentonite will be placed in the annulus from 14 feet to 12 feet bgs(1 foot below the
screened interval of the shallow probe). The shallow probe will be installed within the boring, and pea
gravel will be placed from 12 feet bgs to 5 feet bgs (1 foot above the top of the screened interval of the
shallow probe). The remainder of the annulus will be filled with neat cement. Each probe will be fitted
with the valve assembly used on the existing probes. A stove pipe/monument will be placed over the top
of each set of probes. If groundwater is encountered during boring advancement, the deepest probe will
be constructed so that the bottom of the probe screen is placed 2 feet above the static water surface. The
proposed probe completion details are shown on Figure 2. Soil cuttings will be placed on the ground
surface of the site because it is not expected that contamination will be encountered. However, if
discolored soil or odorous soil is encountered during our activities, we will be prepared to place the soil
in 55-gallon drums.
We plan to complete the quarterly monitoring activities within one week after the completion of the field
activities.
PERMIT
Enclosed with this letter work plan is the completed application for the Well/Pump Permit required for
the probe installations and a check for the amount of$250 to cover the permit fees.
SCHEDULE
Following your approval of this work plan, we estimate that the field activities to install the probes could
be completed within two weeks, assuming drilling contractor availability. We plan to submit a quarterly
monitoring report that will include a description of the field activities performed to install the additional
probes and the results of these activities; a remediation plan will be submitted within 30 days after the
completion of the field monitoring activities.
