Nitrate Loading Analysis, The Nitrate Loading Study by Chesney Consulting projects an <br />estimated resultant nitrate—nitrogen concentration of 0.182 mg-N/L, well below the 10 mg- <br />N/L drinking water standard. I agree with the methodology and calculations presented by <br />Chesney with the exception of the value for rainfall recharge. The study states an assumption <br />of 10 inches per year for rainfall recharge (R value), with no supporting rationale or <br />reference. My calculations using a monthly water balance for the Tracy area indicate an <br />appropriate rainfall recharge value to be in the range of 2 to 4 inches per year. However, <br />based on the large size of the parcel, small wastewater flow, substituting a more realistic <br />rainfall-recharge value of 2 to 4 inches per still yields a projected nitrate concentration below <br />1.0 mg-N/L, which is an acceptable result. No further analysis or response is required. <br />
