KLEINFELDER
Drillin
One well was installed in soil boring M -1 (described in Section 3.1, location shown on
Plate 2) on September 21, 1988. The boring was first advanced to a total depth of
approximately 29.5 feet. Ground water was encountered at approximately 20 feet below
ground surface.
Well Installation
The well was installed as follows:
1. Well construction materials (casing, end caps, etc.) were steam cleaned
onsite prior to installation to reduce the potential for introducing
contamination into the well.
2. Fifteen feet of 2-inch-diameter well screen was set in the bottom of the
boring through the center of the auger. The screen is 2-inch-diameter
Schedule 40 PVC perforated with 0.01-inch machine slots. The screen slot
size was chosen at the time of drilling based on field observations and boring
logs. Most of the screened formation was a silt or sandy silt, indicating that
.01-inch slots would be appropriate.
3. The bottom of the well screen was capped with a 2-inch-diameter PVC end
cap.
4. Fifteen feet of 2-inch diameter Schedule 40 PVC well casing was set from the
top of the screen to 2 feet above ground surface. Sections were joined by
flush-mounted threads. No solvents or glues were used to seal joints.
5. The annular space between the screen and the wall of the boring was
backfilled with clean Lone Star Industries 0/30 sand to approximately 2 feet
above the top of the perforated sections. The filter pack was chosen based
on the screen slot size chosen.
6. A 4-foot bentonite plug was placed above the-sand pack using bentonite
pellets to provide a seal against surface water infiltration.
137-88-1663
