ANALYTICAL METHODOLOGY
Digestion Proceedure for Metals Analysis:
2 grams of a homogeneous soil sample are weighed into a clean acid rinsed
250 ml teflon beaker. 5 mis of nitric acid (HNO3) and 5 mis of deionized
water (D.I.) are added to the sample and the mixed slurry is heated in a
glass bead bath for 10 minutes. The sample is cooled, 5 mis of
concentrated HNO3 are added, and the sample is heated 30 additional
minutes. The sample is again cooled, 3 mis of 30% Hydrogen Peroxide and
2 mis D.I. are added and the slurry is heated for 15 to 20 minutes. 5 mis
of 1:1 hydrochloric acid and 10 mis D.I. are then added to the sample which
is heated a final 10 minutes. After cooling, the sample digestate is filtered
through filter paper and the final volume is adjusted to 100 ml with D.I.
CHEMWEST ANALYTICAL LABORATORIES,INC.
