s
KLEINFELDER
3 SCOPE OF WORK
The following sections present the proposed scope of work to assess the potential for
hazardous materials in or under the City of Lodi Landfill.
3.1 ASSESSMENT OF WASTE,LEACHATE. VADOSE ZONE
Four soil borings will be drilled in order to collect samples for chemical analysis. One of
the soil borings (B-1) will be drilled approximately 150 feet south of the Mokolumne River,
an area likely to have the highest concentration of waste based on previous investigations
(Plate 2). Samples of the waste, leachate (if present), and vadose zone under the landfill
will be collected from the borings for chemical characterization.
Drillin
The soil borings will be advanced using a truck-mounted drill rig, equipped with 8-inch or
10-inch hollow stem augers. During drilling, an experienced environmental geologist will
classify soils using the USCS, collect soil samples for laboratory analysis, and log the
borehole. Borings will be advanced approximately 2 feet below the waste/soil interface.
To reduce the potential for cross-contamination, augers and associated equipment will be
steam cleaned prior to the drilling of each boring. In addition, sampling equipment will be
cleaned with a non-phosphate wash and rinsed with distilled water prior to the collection of
each soil sample.
Soil cuttings produced during drilling will be containerized in 55-gallon drums and will
become the responsibility of Pintail, Inc.
Sam lin
Samples will be collected from the boring proximately every three feet for field
screening, lithologic logging, and potential chemical analysis. Samples will be collected by
advancing the boring to a point immediately above the desired sampling depth and then
137-88-1663
