IDENTIFICATION OF MAJOR WASTE STREAMS
3.1 Identification of Hazardous Waste Streams
A single waste stream consists of similar wastes (i.e., with the same California Waste Codes [CWC])
generated by similar industrial processes or activities. DTSC’s “Guidance Manual for Complying with the
Hazardous Waste Source Reduction & Management Review Act of 1989” (December 2010) describes the
following categories of hazardous waste:
„ Category A: Hazardous wastes that are processed through an onsite wastewater treatment unit prior
to discharge to a publicly owned treatment works or to a receiving water under a National Pollutant
Discharge Elimination System (NPDES) permit.
„ Category B: All other hazardous wastes, including waste shipped off-site for treatment, recycling, or
disposal; manifested waste; and waste that is treated or disposed of onsite.
„ Category C: Wastes that are classified as extremely hazardous wastes.
Amazon reviewed applicable waste profiles and manifests and identified hazardous waste streams
subject to SB 14 requirements. Only Category B waste streams were noted to be generated in 2019 and
are listed in Table 1 in Section 3.2 below.
The list of hazardous wastes subject to SB 14 requirements does not include exempted wastes or non-
routine wastes.
3.2 Quantification of Hazardous Wastes
According to Amazon’s hazardous waste manifests, the facility generated 503,770 pounds of hazardous
wastes subject to SB 14 requirements in 2019. These hazardous waste streams are listed in Table 1
below along with the applicable CWC, the estimated weight of waste generated in 2019, and whether or
not the waste was processed by an onsite wastewater treatment unit.
Table 1: Summary of 2019 Hazardous Waste Streams
Hazardous Waste Stream CWC Weight
(pounds)
Processed in
Onsite
Wastewater
Treatment
Unit?
Liquid Latex Paint / Soap (Loosepack) 331 363,333 No
CA Solid Pharmaceuticals 311 26,274 No
Pesticide Liquid (Loosepack) 331 21,154 No
Liquid Hypochlorites / Bleach 122 14,550 No
CA Liquid Pharmaceuticals 311 12,558 No
Toxic Liquid (Loosepack) 331 10,959 No
Pesticide Solid (Loosepack) 352 9,912 No
