The purpose of this Odor Impact Minimization Plan (GIMP) is to provide
guidance to on-site personnel at the S.K.S - Brandt Road, Poultry Facility in
the handling, storage, and removal of compostable materials, in accordance
with Title 14, California Code of Regulations Section 17863.4. This OIMP will
be maintained on-site and revised as necessary to reflect any changes in the
design or operation(s) of the S.K.S. Brandt Road Poultry / Compost Facility.
A copy of any revisions to this plan will be provided to the enforcement
agency(s) within 30 days of any changes. In addition, this GIMP will be
reviewed semiannually to determine if any revisions are necessary.
The S.K.S. Brandt Road, Poultry Facility will produce on-site all of the
poultry manure used in the compost. Currently fresh wood shaving are
purchased and brought onto the site for mixing with the poultry manure to
produce compost. S.K.S. is researching other products that can also be
mixed with the poultry manure to produce compost at the site. Two
products that look promising are rice hulls and grape pumice. Presently
S.K.S. is capable of processing approximately 10 tons of poultry manure per
pit per day and there are currently 2 pits in production at this time. This
one unit does have the capability of composting 4 pits. This will give them
the capacity to process another 20 tons of poultry manure per day. S.K.S.
also received a USDA "EQIP" grant to purchase another composting unit.
Poultry manure produced on-site not utilized in the compost will be sold
and/or given away (attachment A). Daily the poultry manure generated on-
site is processed into compost. After cleaning the poultry houses in the
morning the manure is transported to the composting facility for immediate
mixing of manure and wood shavings. The poultry manure is processed wet,
as it is transported directly from the Honen's to the composting facility
daily. If, for some reason a composting unit goes down, the manure may
have to be stored (sit) for a short period of time until the problem is
resolved. It takes 28 days for the fresh poultry manure and wood chips to
mature into a completed compostable product. The compost is removed
from the premises after the laboratory analysis is completed. Currently the
compost is sold bulk to "Hyponex", they pick it up as it is completed. S.K.S.
is researching what is needed to bag and sell the compost themselves.
I W M13 U a t1a
RANCH NAME
S.K.S.
