All
non -disposable items will be decontaminated by rinsing the equipment in a container
with an appropriate solution (e.g., water, soap, or solvent). Rinsate waste from
decontamination operations will be managed appropriately, pending analysis. Analytical
test results will determine final disposition of the rinsate. All disposable items will be
handled as hazardous, radioactive, or mixed waste unless test results indicate that the
waste is not subject to regulatory requirements.
4.3.2 Fire Department Decontamination Activities
The Fire Department manages all decontamination efforts following large incidents.
4.4 Notification to DOE and/or Regulatory Agencies
When a release occurs, EFA personnel (the ES&H Team Environmental Analyst during
normal working hours or the EDO during off -hours) must be notified immediately. The
EDO will inform the Laboratory Emergency Duty Officer (LEDO), LLNL Occurrence
Reporting Office, and the appropriate program/department of required reporting to
federal, state, and local agencies. EFA personnel will then notify environmental
regulatory agencies, as necessary (see Table 3 for regulatory agency phone contact
list), following SFA's Environmental Incident Notification and Reporting Procedure.
Table 3.
