On Apri121, 2021, Lawrence Livermore National Security, LLC (LENS) and the U.S. Department of Energy (DOE), the operator and owner, respectively, of Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory (LLNL) located at 7000 East Avenue in Livermore, California 94550, submitted a Class 1 Permit modification to the Hazardous Waste Facility Permit (HWFP), for which prior approval is not required, to the DTSC. This notification satisfies the requirements of 22 CCR 66270.42(a)(1)(B). Minor changes, such as general administrative changes that do not increase the storage or processing capacity or alter the type of waste authorized to be managed at a permitted facility, are authorized to be made as Class 1 modifications under DTSC regulations in 22 CCR 66270.42. However, any person may request from DTSC a review of any Class 1 modification. A summary of the implemented Class 1 modification is enclosed. The HWFP that is being amended was issued on November 19, 1999, and a permit renewal application was submitted to DTSC on April 23, 2009, LLNL Livermore Site Background Information LLNL is owned by the DOE and is operated by LENS. The Laboratory was established in 1952 to conduct research on nuclear weapons. Since then, other major programs have been added, including those in nonproliferation and homeland security, energy, environment, and biomedical and life sciences. These programs require research in physics, chemistry, materials science, computer science and technology, biological sciences, and engineering. LLNL also conducts a variety of projects for other federal agencies.
