Foley
Owens-Illinois
400 West Valpico Road
Tracy, CA 95376
DISPOSAL OF INK WASTES, CORRAL HOLLOW LANDFILL, SAN JOAQUIN 'COUNTY
By letter, dated 9 January 1985, you requested information on the continued
discharge of nonhazardous Flexographic Ink wash up water and starch sludge
to the Tracy-Corral Hollow disposal site.
The waste discharge requirements for the facility (Order No. 76-155) do allow
the discharge of up to 10 gallons of liquid per cubic yard of refuse with the
approval of the Executive Officer. Recent revisions to Subchapter 15, Chapter 3,
Title 23, California Administrative Code, severely restrict the discharge of
liquids to landfills, however. We will be revising the waste discharge require-
ments for the Corral Hollow and other landfills to incorporate the new Subchapter
15 regulations. At that time, it is likely that the discharge of liquids will
be proh_ibi-ted. Until that time, we will not prohibit the continued discharge
of your wastewater to the Corral Hollow landfill .
Your nonhazardous starch sludge may be acceptable at Corral Hollow under the
new Subchapter 15 if the solids concentration isgreater than 50%.
If you have any questions, please contact Dan Ward at (916) 324-8891 .
KENNETH D.
