0
MEMORANDUM UN
IV 0 V
8 1973
TO: James A. Robertson SAN
FROM: Steven C. Macaulay A►(TH 1, LOCAL
SUBJECT: Inspection - Tracy Sanitary Landfill /,r ' -r
On 16 October 1973, I visited the Tracy Sanitary Landfill on Corral
Hollow Road to make a routine inspection of operating procedures at
this site. I contacted Operator Roy Welch.
This site has undergone major upgrading in operation procedures
since the end of last winter. A new earth mover has been acquired,
and a refuse compactor has been ordered. All wastes not on the
active face of the fill were covered adequately with soil. Mr.
Welch discussed the present and immediate future plans for site
operation, which call for eventual utilization of a comprehensive
cut-and-fill program.
Cannery wastes being accepted. at this site frequently have a high
moisture content. These wastes are presently allowed to dry for
several days, and are worked in gradually with the rest of the
fill.
At the time of my inspection various wastes were being r'ceived from
the Tracy Defense Supply Depot. Most of the wastes were Canned
vegetables having expired shelf lives. However, there were approx-
imately 50 cases of isoproterenol hydrochloride, an aerosol pre-
scription drug. Although the nature and volume of this material
is such that it should not be a significant threat to water
quality, the City of Tracy should be aware of any potentially haz-
ardous drugs or material that may be deposited in the landfill.
My inspection indicates that the Tracy Sanitary Landfill is being
operated in an adequate manner to receive and dispose of Group 2
and Group 3 waste materials.
11/7/73 scm/ca
cc: Bob Schneider
Director of Public Works
City of Tracy
.
