Box 2009
Stockton CA 95201
Attention: Ronald Valinoti, R.S.
Gentlemen:
In response to your letter of September 13, 1977, relating to
your request for additional information on the Tracy S . J.
County Landfill, we submit the following:
Site operation:
1. The present operation at the site is a continuous cut and
cover procedure in which the cell size varies. The quantity
of material transmitted to the site each day varies widely and
the cell size (depth) will vary accordingly. The average cell
size will be two to three feet in depth. The cover placed each
day is approximately 0. 1524 meters in depth. Cover material is
obtained from the cut operation at the toe of the fill face.
Approximately 400 cubic yards of cover are placed daily.
Degree of compaction is unknown as the City does not keep records
to determine this factor. Compaction is provided by a Caterpillar
916 Compactor. The equipment used is a standard landfill compac-
tor giving better results than the tractlayer equipment commonly
used to furnish landfill compaction. Viusal observation indi-
cates a compaction ratio between 2 : 1 and 3:1.
c) The City does not maintain standby equipment at the site
due to the expense of providing said equipment. Downtime for a
period exceeding one day is extremely rare and on those occasions
where the down time has exceeded two days, the City rents track-
layer equipment to service the site. Rental equipment is readily
available in the immediate area./,,,, 7
h) Fire control - Daily cover provides adequate protection.
In addition, the equipment is equipped with spark arresters
and smoking is not permitted on site. The occasional burn bar-
rel received at the site is dumped in a remote location rather
than at the fill face.
Life expectancy of site - The remaining capacity of the landfill
site as reported in the San Joaquin County Solid Waste Management
