v
1 •Trorcor,
A description of the processes to be used, including estimated quantities of
feedstocks, additives, and amendments
11
The primary processes conducted at the facility are the delivery of compostable materials
(green, agricultural and food waste), preparing these materials to be composted (grinding),
composting, curing and screening of finished product.
Materials on site
There will be four categories of material on the site; "incoming," "composting," and "overs"
and the finished compost product. All piles onsite shall be monitored at multiple points for
internal temperatures to prevent fires and achieve pathogen reduction.
Incoming material — Feedstock Processing Area
When material is delivered to the site, it is deposited in an area reserved for grinding. The
incoming material consists of yard trimmings, agricultural residue and curbside collection of
green materials, which may or may not be commingled with food scraps. It also may include
OSB and particle board and woody materials. First, the material is inspected for non-
compostable materials. Before being stockpiled or processed, all incoming material will be
immediately spread out for manual screening. The green and commingled material is then put
through the grinder and placed into windrows. All compostable material entering the site will
be ground and incorporated within 36 hours of receipt. The temperatures of the feedstock and
ground material will be taken on a daily basis. As soon as it is formed into windrows, the
composting process and conditions associated with this process will begin.
OSB and particle board to be composted will be processed with the greenwaste and evenly
distributed. The amount of OSB and particle board mixed with the greenwaste will be no more
than 5% by volume.
The wood waste coming into the facility will be separated and placed in a pile, then ground and
stored. The facility will not receive process or remove more than 25 tons per day of wood
waste that is taken to a facility used for energy production. This activity is considered to be a
CDI debris processing operation. The maximum time between when this woody material is
received and is ground will be 15 days. The maximum time that this ground material is on-site
will be six (6) months. But it is anticipated that this material will be ground within a week and
moved off-site within two weeks; and, therefore, that there will be between 25 and 300 tons of
the ground woody material on-site before it is shipped. All woody material piles will be in
compliance with the dimensional limits set by the fire department.
The site shall not accept commercial foodwaste, manure or animal carcasses. Foodwaste
brought in as feedstock will be limited to co -collected green and foodwaste off residential
routes. The amount of foodwaste mixed with the greenwaste will not be more than 15% by
volume.
