The well casing shall then be cut
off six inches above the bottom of this excavation and removed. During the sealing operation, the
grout used to fill the well shall be allowed to spill over into the excavation and fill it for a thickness of
one foot and form a cap which has a diameter of at least on foot greater than the diameter of the
originally drilled hole. This procedure should result in the exposed edge of the casing being covered
with six inches of grout. After the sealing operation and the sealing material have set, the excavation
shall be back filled with clean native soil.
The upper three feet of well casing and annular materials will be removed and the remainder of the
borehole backfilled with neat cement to a depth one foot below the ground surface. The surface will
be completed with concrete to match surface grade.
Wells MW-2, MW-3, MW-4, and MW-5 will be abandoned by overdrilling to total depths. The well
casing and construction materialsxax will be removed by drilling out with a hollow stem auger to the
total depth. The boreholes will be filled with neat cement will be mixed at a ratio of approximately 6
gallons of water to one 94-pound sack of cement and up to 4 pounds of bentonite gel. The surface will
be completed with concrete to match surface grade.
Soil cuttings generated will be placed in 55-gallon drums and transported off-site for disposal.
All work will be performed under a site-specific WPI Site Safety and Health Plan and the supervision
of a California Professional Geologist.
REPORTING
The proposed activities will be initiated upon receipt of appropriate permits. SJCEHD staff will be
notified at least three days in advance of the scheduled work activities. A report summarizing the well
abandonment activities will be submitted within 60 days following completion of all field work.
