Bowman Rd, French Camp
APN 193-260-19, SR0083332
The San Joaquin County Environmental Health Department (EHD) has reviewed the Soil Suitability/Nitrate
Loading (SSNL) Study, dated February 23, 2021 for the above noted location, and has the following
comments for your consideration.
The SSNL was prepared to determine the suitability of the above noted parcel for onsite wastewater treatment
system (OWTS) usage and the potential long-term impact of nitrate to groundwater for the following proposed
three-bedroom second unit dwelling.
Based on the information provided, the EHD can make the following findings:
a. According to the SSNL, the estimated nitrate loading from existing and proposed OWTS usage is
13.90 mg/L as nitrate-nitrogen and the maximum contaminant level of 10 mg/L-N. EHD will require
the mitigation of nitrate-nitrogen through an engineered Onsite Wastewater Treatment System.
b. Percolation test conducted on February 16, 2021 yield percolation rate of 4.39 min/inch. At this
rate, a 20' soil separation is required between bottom of dispersal field and groundwater.
Groundwater at site is 15-20' below ground surface. (San Joaquin County OWTS Standard
Section 1.10.2).
c. A Registered Civil Engineer shall submit complete engineering design plan to EHD for approval
prior to issuance of building permit. The engineer plan shall mitigate above-mentioned concerns.
Fee will be based on the current fee schedule at time of payment.
If you have any questions please contact Naseem Ahmed, Senior Registered Environmental Health
Specialist, at nahmed@sjgov.org or (209) 616-3018.
Steven Shih, REHS
Program Coordinator
c: Live0ak
1868 E.
