REHS
RE: Closure of Colonial Heights Swimming Facility, 2016 Paloma Avenue, Stockton
The San Joaquin County Environmental Health Department (EHD) has recently become
aware that the Colonial Heights swimming facility located at 2016 Paloma Avenue is
closed by the operators of the pool (the Colonial Heights Association). Further, the
Colonial Heights Association has no intention of re -opening the pool due mainly to a
lack of membership fees that have enabled the pool to remain open for many years.
The EHD is responsible for conducting health and safety inspections at all public pools
in the county. Annual inspections are conducted at in-service as well as out -of -service
pools. The Colonial Heights Pool is now classified as an out -of -service pool. In order
to verify that basic health and safety is maintained at this facility, the EHD will be
required to do an annual inspection of the Colonial Heights Pool. We will inspect for
things such as: Algae growth in the water (if water is kept in pool), harboring of
mosquitoes in the pool or standing water at the bottom of pool, maintenance of fencing
to discourage the public from entering the pool enclosure, and other health hazards that
may exist. The fee for an out -of -service pool permit is $110.00/year.
The EHD would appreciate payment of this fee in order for us to continue to help
safeguard the residents in this area of hazardous conditions or a nuisance occurring as
a result of the closed pool.
If you have any questions please call me at (209) 468-3438.
Jeff Carruesco, REHS Program Coordinator
San Joaquin County Environmental Health Department
Cc: San Joaquin County Code Enforcement
San Joaquin County Mosquito and Vector Control
