Amok
W 9
The Corral Hollow Sanitary Landfill (CHSL) is owned and operated
by San Joaquin County. The site is located on Corral Hollow Road
in southern San Joaquin County near Tracy (Figure 1). The CHSL
is approximately 45 acres.
The Landfill currently operates under Waste Discharge Requirement
Number 89-046 from the Regional Water Quality Control Board
(RWQCB) and Solid Waste Facilities Permit Number 39 -AA -0005,
issued by the California Integrated Waste Management Board
(CIWMB).
In accordance with the regulations, the County will monitor the
perimeter of the site for migration of landfill gas. Figure 2
shows the property boundary. The County proposes to drill seven
21 deep gas monitoring borings around the perimeter of the site.
The borings will be installed using a slide hammer.
The County will mark the location of each boring and test for
landfill gas quarterly. The equipment used will be a Gas Tech
Landfill Monitor equipped with parts per million (ppm), Lower
Explosive Limit (5%), and 100% gas scales. The 5% scale will be
used. The instrument will be calibrated with a 2.5% methane
mixture and will be warmed up for approximately 10 minutes prior
to monitoring. The probe will be inserted to the full depth of
the boring for approximately 2 minutes.
