The Corral Hollow Sanitary Landfill is located on Corral Hollow
Road approximately 5 miles south of Tracy, California (Figure 1).
The site is a Class III landfill which stopped accepting waste in
May, 1995. In accordance with closure regulations, a network of
seven perimeter gas monitoring wells was installed by SCS
Engineers (Figure 2).
The seven wells were monitored for methane on March 28, 1996.
The results of the monitoring are shown on the following table.
The County recently purchased a Landtec GEM 500 landfill gas
monitor. The GEM 500 is capable of detecting methane in total
percentages and Lower Explosive Limit, Carbon Dioxide, and Oxygen
concentrations. In addition, the GEM is capable of measuring
pressure and gas flow. As previously reported in a memo to the
San Joaquin County Environmental Health Division, the County's
Gas Tech Landfill monitor had to be sent in for repairs.
Therefore, the GEM 500 was used to perform the first quarter
monitoring event for the Corral Hollow Sanitary Landfill. The
County will continue to use the GEM 500 for future monitoring
events. The instrument was calibrated using calibration gas
canisters containing (1) 15% methane, 15% Carbon Dioxide, balance
Nitrogen, and (2) 4% oxygen, balance Nitrogen.
