The Corral Hollow Sanitary Landfill is located on Corral Hollow Road approximately 5 miles
south of Tracy, California(Figure 1). The site is a Class III landfill which stopped accepting
waste in May, 1995. In accordance with closure regulations, a network of seven perimeter gas
monitoring wells was installed by SCS Engineers (Figure 2).
The seven wells were monitored for methane on June 11, 1996. The results of the monitoring are
shown on the table below. The County is using a Landtec GEM 500 landfill gas monitor to
perform the monitoring. The GEM 500 is capable of detecting methane in total percentages and
Lower Explosive Limit, Carbon Dioxide, and Oxygen concentrations. In addition, the GEM is
capable of measuring pressure and gas flow. The instrument was calibrated using calibration gas
canisters containing(1) 15% methane, 15% Carbon Dioxide, balance Nitrogen, and (2) 4%
Oxygen, balance Nitrogen.
1
