The County has addressed this issue by
installing final cover over the entire landfill. Final cover consists of a two foot foundation layer, a
one foot clay barrier layer, and a one foot vegetative cover layer. Final cover will greatly reduce
the amount of moisture entering the refuse, which in turn will reduce methane production. The
County will continue gas testing on a quarterly basis to monitor the effects of final cover
installation on gas migration. Effects of gas migration are expected to be minimal due to the
desolate location of the Corral Hollow Sanitary Landfill. The only residence in the area is
approximately one mile from the site.
4
